Experience the superlative musicianship of our strings program. There are many opportunities to play your instrument at South Eugene High School.
OUR STRING GROUPS directed by Karen Doerfert The STRING ORCHESTRA is open to all students who play violin, viola, cello or string bass. Emphasis will be on improved musicianship and technical skills. STRING ENSEMBLE is designed for the most advanced students who play violin, viola, cello or string bass. Students can audition for the String Ensemble only after participating in the Orchestra class for at least one year |
OTHER OPPORTUNITIES: Many members of our instrumental performance ensembles participate in the PIT ORCHESTRA for our highly-acclaimed stage musicals. This is a great experience for students who wish to get a glimpse of what it's like to be a professional musician in our community. These students often play alongside pros for a packed house. Traditional South students who desire to continue in music after high school are encouraged to complete a Career-Aligned Mastery (CAM) Project in either Instrumental Performance or Music Theory. Preparations for these projects begin Junior year. Check THIS LINK for more information about CAM Projects at South. Our students participate in myriad other extra-curricular music experiences including summer camps, instrument lessons, district and state solo and ensemble festivals, All-State Orchestra and All-Northwest Orchestra.
